KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has issued a warning against the use of 14 China-made toothpaste brands containing diethylene glycol, a toxic chemical used as engine coolant.

The brands are Cooldent Fluoride, Cooldent Spearmint, Cooldent ICE, Dr Cool, Everfresh Toothpaste, Superdent Toothpaste, Clean Rite Toothpaste, Oralmax Extreme, Oral Bright Fresh Spearmint Flavor, Bright Max Peppermint Flavor, ShiR Fresh Mint Fluoride Toothpaste, DentaPro, DentaKleen and DentaKleen Junior.

The Health Ministry’s pharmaceutical services director, Datuk Che Mohd Zin Che Awang, said the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had identified these toothpastes as containing diethylene glycol and were not safe.
