Dentures are regarded the cheapest way to replace missing tooth in many countries. In Malaysia, people can get a full set of dentures for as low as RM100 (public sector). Therefore many Malaysians have dentures to replace their missing chompers.
The awareness of denture hygiene is at times low among certain wearers. Some even wear them day and night, and I’ve seen some who have not taken off their dentures since the first day it was issued (that was at least 5 years ago!). Just imagine how poor the cleanliness in and around the dentures, not to mention the foul odour once the dentures are taken off for the first time.
Think of it this way…
Imagine wearing socks for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Try to multiply it by five years without ever washing the pair of socks or even taking them off for a breather. The foul smell from your foot, coupled with perhaps boils, rashes, etc. would definately make you turn green.
Please take off your dentures during the night, just before you go to sleep. Wash and brush them with a toothbrush under tap water and store them in a glass of plain water. Brush your remaining teeth (if any) before going to sleep. Brush your teeth in the morning before putting on your dentures again.
Have a good oral hygiene for the benefit of your dentures and yourself.
