Dental Graduates! This series of facts would be posted daily for your information.

You will be starting a three year compulsory service which include postings in district clinics as well as specialist attachments. The first year of service which you would be fondly known as First Year Dental Officers (FYDO) is inclusive of the three year compulsory service.

You would be starting at the grade of U41 and currently do not automatically be promoted to U44 like our medical counterparts (sigh!). Starting salary is at P1T5 which translates to RM2,366.55 with Imbuhan Tetap Khidmat Awam at RM300.00, Imbuhan Tetap Perumahan at RM250.00 and Critical Allowance at RM750.00.

Total pay would be at RM3,666.55 which is not bad for a fresh graduate. Of course, in the private practice there would be more money, five figures can be attainable easily (depending on where you work really) but it would not be possible to practice in the private sector until you have finished your three year compulsory service. Locums are possible, after office hours or during your annual leave though you should get written approval from your boss and an APC to practice at the clinic’s premises.
