Today I’m out of the office. Six of us were selected to be the people responsible during fire drills and, God forbid, actual emergency cases involving fire in the office. We had a crash course on the handling of fire extinguishers and deployment of fire hoses during the event of a fire.

Come June, the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) would have it’s Annual General Meeting alongside a scientific convention and trade exhibition and this year it is held in Hotel Istana. As always, my wife and I are the regular attendees and this year our little baby boy also came along (albeit still in the womb ;)).

I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, or as my co-worker puts it.. “Memang suey hari ni!“.

I would not want to dwell on the details, added with the snail paced servers in the office I feel like sticking the finger at someone’s face.

Anyhow, I believe everyone would have, will have, or have had a bad day or days at some point in their lives. I’ve having my sucky day today.

Life goes on. I think I have already made up my mind.

Cheers.

I did my last on call when I was in Johor. The paper pushing did not include on calls in its package, thank God but my wife continued to be on calls even after our transfer to the Klang Valley (she’s a clinic based dental surgeon). This morning she got a call from the hospital, a teenager involved in an MVA with soft tissue injuries and suspected facial fractures. (more…)

You’re a dental surgeon and you do have to do on calls. MVA (Motor Vehicle Accidents), domestic violence and even freak accidents with head and neck injuries will be tended by you. Most of the time you would deal with laceration wounds which would of course need toilet and suturing (T&S) but if you’re lucky (or unlucky, depends on how you see it) you also would have fractures of the jaws (the maxilla and the mandible) and you may need to do some intermaxillary fixation with wires. When I was a FYDO I had a very young infant with a laceration wound on the floor of the mouth (~1cm), alleged due to fall). Bleeding was mildly severe and needed transfusion. The paediatric surgeon called for an emergency OT and I sutured up the poor lil baby under general anaesthesia. So on calls can be intimidating yet fun at the same time. Good luck.

Yes, I know. I’m a dental surgeon and usually dental surgeons are found in the dental clinics. Well, I’m one of those dental surgeons doing administration. So basically I’m pushing paper. Continue on for the song I’m dedicating to the world’s paper pushers. (more…)
