During a Father’s Day show-and-tell at his weekend public speaking class, my second son Ezra — who was about eight years old at the time — stood up, looked around the room, and introduced me as his hero. I had spent more than twenty years in dentistry, but Ezra didn’t mention clinics or patient care. With complete conviction, he introduced me as a designer.

The truth is, my time with Ezra is limited to only certain weekends. When you have so few hours with your child, every single minute carries weight. We turned those precious weekend windows into our own little workshop, spending our hours together staring into CAD software, tweaking dimensions, and watching 3D printers bring imagination into the physical world. Ezra has an innate fire for making things — he loves to design, build, and tinker, and he already talks about becoming an rocket engineer when he grows up. Seeing myself reflected in his eight-year-old eyes changed everything for me. He didn’t see my title; he saw the father who created alongside him.

I realized that being his role model meant showing him how to fight for what truly matters. I am a father first, and if becoming a full-time designer and creator helps me inspire him to reach his dreams, then that is the path I must take.

I made the decision to leave dentistry behind so I could spend more meaningful time with my children and make full use of every second I have with Ezra along with my eldest Kimi and their two little siblings, Emi and Aya. My years in dentistry were deeply meaningful to me, particularly my time exploring non-traditional paths like corporate dentistry. To honor that chapter and help others finding their own way in the profession, I authored six books aimed at inspiring aspiring dentists and helping practitioners expand their horizons beyond the clinic — all of which are available here on this site in both print and e-book formats.

Today, I devote my energy to the crafts that connected Ezra and me: writing, 3D design, digital fabrication, and photography.

Every design file, book, and photograph on this site is born from that love.
